My name is Scout Lansing and I am a 17 year old senior from Half Moon Bay California. In 2011, when I was 12, my family moved to Oslo, Norway. After living there for 5 years, I moved back home this year and I am attending International High School in San Francisco, California. Starting with my time in Oslo, I have been enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which is a rigorous, in-depth high school diploma program consisting of 3 higher-level (HL) and 3 standard-level (SL) subjects chosen by the student. As a senior, I take Economics ,History, English Literature (all HL), and Math, Spanish, and Physics (all SL).
During my time in Norway, I was fortunate to have dedicated coaches that pushed me to improve as a player and take my game to the next level. I qualified for the Norwegian U-16 national team, but I could not continue because I did not have a Norwegian passport.
Living In Norway during my formative years has greatly influenced me as a person and I feel it makes me somewhat unique. During my 5 years, I had the opportunity to travel to Denmark, Italy, Sweden, France, Hungary, Turkey, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Mozambique, Germany and Czech Republic. I made life long connections with friends from all over the globe at Oslo International School and became highly proficient in Norwegian since that is all my basketball coaches ever spoke.
Being in Student Council as taught me a lot about leadership and organization. I love student council because it is my chance to make real and tangible improvements to school life. I was Vice President of lower secondary school and then continued to do Student council in upper secondary school where I was elected Secretary and finally President last year. We accomplished a lot last year including Career Night, the first Junior-Senior prom, donations of winter clothes for refugees, and lots of spirits activities such as Sports Day, Halloween costume contest and a Christmas lunch.
I am extremely passionate and hard-working in basketball and I want to continue to play at the next level. I believe I am a well-rounded player that can shoot long-range, drive to the basket and finish. I have a good eye on the court and a good basketball IQ. Running cross-country and track & field has built my stamina and made me a very athletic and quick player in transition. I am always active on defense looking for the steal and boxing out. I won ‘Best Defensive Player’ at Stanford Elite Camp in 2015.
