I started playing basketball in third grade because I was the tallest in my class, but as I continued to play, my passion grew and I played not just because of my height, but because I loved the sport. By middle school, I knew I wanted to continue playing at the college level, and I have been working toward that goal ever since. I’ve learned a lot about basketball concepts that can also apply to life, such as teamwork, how to handle pressure, and the value of persistence and hard work.
I push myself in the classroom as well as on the basketball court. I challenged myself by taking honors and AP level classes my first two years of high school, and I am continuing to do so by pursuing an International Baccalaureate diploma with IB Biology as my third “higher level” class. My goal is to find a selective college or university where I can combine rigorous academics and basketball. While I do not yet know exactly what I want to major in, I’m passionate about science and the environment and want to explore careers that incorporate those interests.
