My name is Anisa Monteau, and I am a senior at Casa Grande Union High School in Casa Grande, Arizona. I grew up in Rocky Boy, Montana where I first picked up a basketball at the age of 9. As a Native American growing up, basketball is viewed as life. During my 7th grade year I moved to California and learned to properly play the game and soon grew into my abilities. Basketball has given me the confidence to face any obstacle and know that I will get through them with perseverance and grace.
My academic goals for my senior year are to maintain my 3.84 GPA in all of my AP courses while staying active in basketball, club basketball, Key Club, and National Honor Society. Over the past summer (2015), I volunteered over 80 hours (for a total of 260 hours) at Banner Casa Grande Medical Center in the cancer center, and the wound center. While volunteering at the hospital I gained experience in care as well as knowledge in many different medical fields.
This year, my personal goals are to prove to my coach as well as to myself, that I am capable of remaining calm and taking control of the floor, and as Co-Captain, that I am capable of leading the team. Since my freshman year, my coach has given me many opportunities and has continued to believe in me throughout my journey in high school and club basketball. I am now a shooting guard as well as a point guard. I have strong ball handling skills, am strong defensively and can shoot inside and outside of the paint. Although I am a guard, I hope to improve in my position as a small forward player as well.
I would like to attend nursing school, and know that playing college basketball at the same time, will be very rigorous. I can attest that high school AP and Pre-AP academics while playing sports, is just as rigorous and I am and always have been, up for a challenge.
