My name is Kimberly Wert and I am 14 years old. I have grown up in a very active family and have played many sports, but playing softball is my passion. My parents are very supportive of my dreams and are willing to help me get there as long as I put in the effort. They signed me up for Little League when I was four and I have been on the ball field ever since. After playing Little League for 6 years, we decided to make the switch to travel ball when I was 10. I started out playing on two teams, 10U and 18U. This provided me with not only experience but it taught me that you have to set goals for yourself, never stop improving, and never give up. I also learned to keep my goals just out of reach, but the most important lesson I learned is that once you reach these goals you have to set new ones. Playing travel ball for four years now I have learned how to use time management skills. I obtained these due to the fact that I was on up to four teams at a time as well as being a student.
Academically I strive for the highest possible grades and scores I can receive. For the past 9 years I have kept a 4.0 every marking period even with my crazy softball schedule. My teachers compliment me on my work ethic and appreciate my drive in the classroom. I hope to take these traits to college in order to complete courses to become a physical therapist.
Playing softball I have learned that I enjoy encouraging and pushing my teammates to do their best no matter what. Pushing and encouraging my teammates allows me to be relaxed, and lightens the mood of the people around me. Most of the time I lead by example but I will use words when it is needed. I feel my knowledge of the game is one of my biggest assets. I pay attention to everything on the field at all times, allowing me to make good heads up plays, which most don’t pay attention to.
The road I have traveled to get where I am today has not been easy. People all around me have told me I will never make it in the softball world. But these people just make me stronger. My favorite quote is “Don’t give others the power to control your emotions. Those are only yours and it is only for you to manipulate.” In my college search, I am looking for the best fit for both my athletic and academic needs. Athletically, I am looking for a program filled with people that have the same goal as I do; to reach our fullest potential. Academically, I need to be positive that after graduating, I will have put myself in a good position to continue my adult career. I am eager to find the college that is right for me. Maybe you could be it.
