Maile Deutsch '17 Recruiting Profile

In 2007 my family and I moved from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Palmer, Texas. Before 2007, I had absolutely no idea what softball even was, until we moved to Texas and my next door neighbor encouraged me to sign up and play in a league. Nine years later as I look back to where I started and where I am today, I believe that this sport has made me a competitive and dedicated athlete on and off the field. I would consider myself a strong, respectful and determined athlete, who always gives 110% and never gives up on the field or in the classroom. I take criticism and incorporate it into making myself a better ball player.

My collegiate goals are to pursue a career in medicine where I will be able to save the lives of others, making a difference in our world. On January 31, 2016, my father and I were in a rollover car accident in our truck, causing extensive injuries to my father, and by the grace of god I luckily only obtained scrapes and bruises. This life-changing event has not only encouraged me to pursue a career in medicine, but has also taught me that life is too short to take anything for granted. By aspiring my career in medicine, along with the opportunity to play the sport that I love, will challenge me and allow me to become a better student and athlete.
