Hello, my name is Michala Maciolek and I am a freshman at the Agnes Irwin School, in Villanova, PA. I play Junior Olympic-level softball for the Jersey Nightmare 18U Gold. I love playing the game of softball and everything about it. I started playing softball in a township league, and I immediately knew that this was the sport that I wanted to play for a long time and at the collegiate level. After that year, my parents and I knew that I needed to play at the next level so I became involved in a tournament team. I have played for PA Frenzy 12U, Delco Rage12U, and Philadelphia Spirit 14U Elite, and have worked my way up to playing for the elite Jersey Nightmare Gold. Playing at the Gold level took a lot of hard work. Those days of hitting off of the tee in my backyard, going to practice early and staying late with my Dad to get extra skill-building time, and cross fit training 4 times a week, has really paid off; but I am not finished or satisfied, yet. I continue to take hitting and catching lessons, and all of the activities listed above, to the next level to achieve even greater things in the years ahead.
I also excel in academics. I have a 3.9 GPA, have won many academic awards, and have had perfect attendance for 4 years in a row. In the classroom, I am very focused, and I study very hard to achieve the best grades. I love learning, especially about science, and in college, I want to have a major in Business, especially in the field of Marketing. I have received several student leadership awards and recognitions in athletics and academics.
Outside of the classroom, when I am not playing softball, I love to volunteer my time in to those less fortunate. Last year, I spent over 100 hours in community service, including painting murals and park benches, helping young children with homework, serving food at shelters, and so on.
In the end, my hate-to-lose attitude and my hard work will hopefully pay off to accomplish my dream, to play collegiate level softball. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement, and I hope to see you on the fields.
