I was born with a vascular malformation, known as a Hemangioma that covered the entire right side of my face. I have had several extensive surgeries. I had to be in speech therapy my grade school years because of the deformity of my lip. I have always been proud of who I am & I never let the bullying, teasing or name calling get me down. My parents taught me early on that I was made from love & to be proud of who I am & what I look like. I've always tried to carry myself with confidence & grace, & put myself out there in front of people by doing local pageants, talent shows, singing & playing the guitar at church & other local community events/activities.
I am proud to say that I have accompanied my church youth group on numerous mission trips, where we helped build & uplift communities & taught little children about the Bible. I participate in my church youth choir & youth play that help with fundraisers for the church & youth group.
The thing I am most passionate about is softball. I love it! I eat, sleep & breathe it! I've played since I was in kindergarten. I am a left handed second baseman, which is very rare & I also pitch. I play on my high school team & I also play on an 18U tournament/showcase team. I love the sport so much that I even help coach a 3rd grade team & give pitching lessons, help & advice to the younger girls coming up.
My sophomore year of high school, I lost my best friend, my grandmother, Betty Whitley. She was the wind beneath my wings. She pushed me to be a good student, a person who helps people & finds the good in everyone. She told me to "go to college & succeed in being the best you that you can be." That's my plan to be an amazing nurse, like those that helped her while she was in the hospital for 6 months. I admired their selfless support & care they gave her.
With this little snippet about me, I can say that I am a positive person & I have a strong sense of belief in myself & I would bring determination, grit, try & heart to any college that would be willing to give me a chance.
