As I was growing up, my parents always made sure I knew that being a student came before being an athlete. My mom only graduated high school while my dad didn't even make it that far. They both pushed my siblings and I to to always put education first. They also encouraged us to join as many extracurricular activities as we could. I joined the National National Honor Society because I liked what it stood for. This club encouraged me to volunteer more around the community. Every year I am at the Special Olympics and the Soup Kitchen. Every Saturday night I feed the homeless.
I knew that softball was the sport I wanted to spend my time on when my coach had a long heart to heart talk with me. He told me that getting to the top is going to be the hardest battle I will face. Everyone is always going to be working so I needed to work harder. I've never been one to back down from a challenge. I spent time after practice working with that coach every day.
