My name is Makenzie Shellnutt and I am the oldest of five children.  I am 5'9 and 145lbs.  I am quick for my height and size.   Although I throw right handed, I am a LEFT handed power hitter.   Being the oldest of five children, I have learned the importance of responsibility and hard work. I have been captain of my travel team for the last two years. In 2013, my high school team took 2nd place in our high school state tournament. I won 2nd team All-State and 2nd team All-Conference at 1st base. In 2012 High School softball, our team placed third in the state and I was awarded 1st team All-State and 1st team All-Conference  at DH. I earned Offensive MVP in 2010.  In 2011, I earned Defensive MVP from school ball, and in club ball, I earned all around MVP.   All of my coaches in softball and basketball frequently comment on my work ethic.  I believe you must push yourself in practice and in games to be the best that you possible can be.   I lead my team with a positive attitude and by example. Sports allows for so many lessons to be learned and I want to share that with others and help achieve their dreams.  I also am right side hearing impaired and wear a hearing aide. This disability does not hinder my ability to play at a high level of competition, in fact it spurs me on to play harder and smarter using other senses to compensate.
