Personal Statement

I have completed my freshman year at Eureka College, where I was a member of the Dean's List after my first semester.  I finished 5th in the conference in pitching wins (9) and ERA (3.02), and 2nd in saves. I led my team in HRs (6), and was second in RBI (28), slugging % (.695), and extra base hits (15) in 65 at bats.

My high school varsity team competed in the Mid Illini conference, which is one of the top conferences in Illinois.  During my three varsity seasons, I started every game at either first base, third base, shortstop, pitcher, or catcher.  I can play every infield position, and also played outfield at times.  I believe that my ability to play a wide range of positions would definitely be an asset to any team.  I am constantly working on improving my core muscles through an extensive workout program.

I assisted at my high school softball camps for younger girls in the summer, along with being a volunteer coach for the Dunlap Valley Middle School softball team in the fall.  I feel that I have a thorough knowledge of the game, and enjoy teaching the basics to the younger players at camps and clinics.  I am also the founder of the Peoria Area Softball Donations organization. I collect used and new softball equipment, and distribute it to teams and players in need in central Illinois.

I am extremely enthusiastic and passionate about softball. I am always positive and supportive of my teammates. I take practices seriously, as I know that is the basis of improving my game. I continually work to keep my body in the proper condition to play softball.  I take hitting lessons from two former National Pro Fastpitch players, Samantha and Angela Findlay, which allows me to hit the ball more consistently and with power to all fields.  This hitting style has allowed me to hit 20 home runs and numerous extra base hits. I have led my high school team in home runs, extra base hits, on base percentage, and slugging percentage.

My high school grade point average was 3.90 on a 4.00 scale.  I attained a score of 30 on the ACT, which is in the top 5% in the nation.  My class rank academically was #11 out of 303 students, and my high school is ranked #16 academically in Illinois. I was an Illinois State Scholar, a member of the National Honor Society, and a Mid Illini Conference Scholar Athlete.  I take my school work very seriously and strive to excel in both the classroom and on the field.
