Savannah Thomas '13 Recruiting Profile

At 5'6" and 135 pounds, my name is Savannah Leigh Thomas. However, family, friends and teammates call me Boogee. I hope to tell you one day, in person, how I got my nickname! I feel one of my greatest accomplishments is being able to be a part of my high school varsity teams in both softball and basketball during my seventh grade year. This achievement started me on the path of realization that I can do whatever I set my mind to. I have played softball for eight years. The last four years, I have been fortunate enough to play for Larry Willis and the Birmingham Thunderbolts. I have earned the role as team leader on many of my teams. I work extremely hard to live up to this expectation. Doing this includes being a motivator both on and off the field. I help my coaches manage the equipment, warm up the team and promote a positive attitude among team members. I also try to be a good influence on my team when dealing with other athletes, authority figures and my family. I am open to many different types of schools both divisionally and geographically. While I am undecided in my education major, I do have paths that I am interested in and would like to continue to research. I think I would enjoy coaching softball, sports medicine or physical therapy. I do know that I would like to focus on these ideas all involving children and young adults. My mother is a teacher and I have seen the influence that she can have on the lives of her students. I too, in some way, want to have the chance to help mold and develop the lives of young people. Because of my love of sports and children, I believe the careers that I am considering will give me the opportunity to stay involved in the sports world while positively influencing young people. My goal is to play on a competitive team. I want to be where my skills and ability can contribute the most toward the success of the overall program. I have been lucky enough to grow up in a home that promotes strength of family and friends. I want to be a positive member of the extended college family that I will become a part of as I make my goal of becoming a college athlete a reality!
