I am married to my wife, Clarice, and have two stepchildren, Amy (23) and Austin (19). We all reside in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Amy competed in track and field at Northern State University in Aberdeen, and Austin is now a member of that same track and field program. Our time has been spent going to their numerous events throughout the years, and we are fortunate to be able to continue to watch them compete at their respective levels.
I grew up in rural South Dakota and graduated from Bowdle High School in 1986. In high school, I competed in every sport imaginable. I was the son of a former high school coach, so competing was instilled in me from a very young age. I competed in football, basketball, track and baseball. Growing up among a population of fewer than 700 people, I had the fortune of participating at the varsity level while in junior high. I compiled a total of 16 varsity letters in these various sports over the years. I was voted to the All-Conference football team three times, was All-Conference and All-District in basketball three times and was All-Conference in track four times. At the state level, I was an All-State football player and a state champion in track as a senior. I was a state placer in track a couple more times as a junior as well. I was then blessed to be able to play at the collegiate level in football and baseball at the University of Jamestown in North Dakota. During that time, I was an All-Conference and All-District performer in baseball as a freshman and sophomore. My athletic career was then cut short due to an injury, but having the opportunity to compete at that level is something I will always cherish.
I have been with NCSA for a number of years and am very passionate about what I do. Even though I was well decorated as an athlete in high school, I was only recruited by a few local schools because not many coaches knew who I was. I know, firsthand, what it is like to experience the frustration of the lack of exposure and guidance in the recruiting process. I do not want that negativity to happen to your child or family, so I will be giving you 100 percent of my attention in making your experience with NCSA and recruiting a positive one.
