I grew up in a military family, where I moved 8 times before my 18th birthday, covering six states (NY, MA, FL, TX, CO, & VA) and two countries (USA & Japan). I have since added 4 more states to that list (SC, PA, ME, & KS).
I attended Cairn University where I was a 4-time All-American as a Men’s Soccer player, reaching three national tournaments, twice earning All-Tournament recognition. I played several sports growing up but soccer became my primary sport following the 1994 World Cup held in the USA.
Following my playing days, I had a 13-year career as a Head Coach at the collegiate level, coaching at the NCAA D2, NCAA D3, and NAIA levels. I was also on the coaching staff for a semi-professional team. I have received seven “Coach of the Year” awards, led 8 teams to a national ranking, been a part of a Top 10 “Year-to-Year turnaround” in NAIA history, reached a Final Four, coached 11 All-American athletes, and have over 20+ former players now coaching in high school, club, or college.
My recruiting experience as a student-athlete and as a coach were vastly different. As a coach, recruiting has always been my favorite aspect of college coaching, since I loved building programs from the ground up. Seeing the joy in a student-athlete when they find “their fit” and achieve their dream of playing in college is something I loved being a part of. As an athlete, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. I assumed if you were good enough, “they would find you”. I wasn’t “found”. I fell backwards into a program by chance a week before my freshman year began. I am forever grateful for the opportunity I had but always wondered what my path would’ve looked like if I had known what I was doing. Since that experience, I have loved helping others have a plan to pursue their best academic, athletic, and financial fits.
I currently live in South Carolina with my wife and son.
