I’m from a small town in Southern California, and volleyball wasn’t a very common sport. I got a late start in the sport, but my parents worked hard to get me the best training that I could get. For my last couple of years of high school, I was fortunate enough to play with a great club team that ended up taking silver in the Open Division at Junior Nationals. This led me to receiving a full-ride scholarship to Long Beach State, where I majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry. During my time at LBSU, beach volleyball became a collegiate sport, so I was able to compete in both indoor and beach. For indoor, we earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament twice and I received a couple of All-Big West honors. For beach, we were invited to compete in the AVCA Team Championships in 2012, 2013, and 2015. My partner and I were also invited to compete in the AVCA Individual Pairs Championship twice (2014 and 2015). We were actually the AVCA Beach National Champions in 2013! After I graduated in 2015, I went overseas to play professionally in Germany for two years. My team took Bronze in the top German league in 2017, and I received multiple match MVP medals during my time there.
I started coaching collegiately in 2018 with a short stint at Seattle University in Washington before moving back to California and coaching both indoor and beach at San Jose State University. During my four years at SJSU, the indoor team went from having a .345-win percentage to finishing 2nd in the Mountain West Conference Tournament, leaving us one win shy of playing in the NCAA Tournament.
The best part of being a collegiate coach for me was the relationships that were built. I’m proud to say that many of my previous athletes still text, call and video chat with me all the time. I look forward to creating these relationships with my NCSA families while helping them navigate the recruiting process. My goal is to help student-athletes find the right athletic and academic fit at the collegiate level.
