I was a three-sport athlete in high school and was a four-time state champion and national high school champion in wrestling. In college, I wrestled in the Big Ten Conference for the University of Wisconsin. In 2000, I was a NCAA DI All-American placing fourth. After I graduated from college, I coached wrestling at my alma mater for nine years. In 2004, I spearheaded the No. 1-ranked recruiting class in the nation. In 2013, I was inducted into the South Dakota High School Wrestling Hall of Fame.

I joined NCSA in 2009 as a recruiting specialist. In 2011, I became a vice president of recruiting and, since the beginning of 2017, I have been the executive vice president of recruiting. In my role, I lead a team of nearly 400 recruiting coordinators and specialists.

I live in Madison, Wisconsin, where I enjoy spending time with my wife, Lori, and our two children: Vivien (2 years old) and Ty (2 months old). Prior to having kids, I enjoyed international travel.
