Since I was a kid, it was always my dream to play in the NHL. Hockey consumed me and positively shaped a significant portion of my life. However, being from California, hockey was obviously not as popular as other sports and therefore made it much harder to access the things that I thought I needed to achieve my goals, whether it was the steep cost of playing high level travel hockey in order to get exposure in the bigger hockey markets, or the lack of scouting and development assistance in my region. This ultimately led me to make the decision to not chase after a scholarship and try my luck just going to a college that had promising academics, but also a club hockey team that I could try out for and still get to do what I love in a less competitive setting.
Since graduating from ASU with a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Business, I have decided that I want to give back to the sport that gave me so much. Had I known about NCSA when I was applying for colleges and had close to zero knowledge about how to get recruited for ice hockey, that could have changed the entire outcome of my life. Therefore, I feel a real sense of purpose in my position here at NCSA, because I now have the ability to make sure that other families do not have go through such a difficult process, without the help that they deserve.
