Personal Statement

I believe I can be of great value to your institution. I can contribute myself as an athlete, a student, and a citizen to whatever school I get the opportunity to attend. As an athlete, I offer my 5'10" 150lb build, along with a full tank of gas, a great work ethic, and an un-relenting will to win. I've been introduced to running in the GSL in Spokane, WA. If you haven't heard of it, you should know that it's one of the most competitive leagues in the nation for distance running. We boast nationally ranked teams annually. This is the level of competition I am used to and have adapted well. As a Sophomore I placed 14th in both the 1600M (4:35.1) and 3200 (9:55.9) in the 4A district Meet. The respective times were my season PRs. Later in the year I ran my second season of cross country as a junior to place 34th in the 3A state meet Looking forward to a top 20 in the state return as a senior next year. Not only do I run, but I also wrestle and was varsity my sophomore year (and currently as a junior) for my schools 4A State Championship Team. I placed 6th in our district meet. I do not plan on leaning much on my accomplishments as a wrestler to get me into college but anyone that knows wrestling knows that it both requires and teaches self-discipline as much as or even more so than any sport at the high school level. I carry over this will to work into my other sports and aspects of my life. The work ethic I've acquired in sports has served me well in the classroom as well. I tackle hard classes such as AP Calculus BC, AP Language Arts and Composition, Physics, and Chemistry all the while maintaining good grades keeping my GPA at a 3.99. I would consider this an accomplishment considering that I do this in conjunction with participating in three sports year round. I am in all, a pretty busy and involved person. But along with participation within my school, I also volunteer my time in the community through a cadet program called Civil Air Patrol, USAF Auxiliary. I have been on ground searches for missing ATV-ers, helped dig out homes from intense snow, and I've helped train other youth in the area to become proficient in helping my community in similar means. All in all, wherever I go, I will recognize and act upon my duties as a student in the classroom, an athlete on the field and on the roads, and as a member of a college community.
