My name is Zachary Smith, I usually go by Zach. I have been in an athletic environment since the age of five when I started playing baseball. Since then I have played on many different sports teams from soccer to football to cross country. I have enjoyed every sport in which I have participated. In the 7th grade I began running track and I fell in love with the sport right away. Since the 7th grade I have been driven to be the best I possibly can be on the track. As a sophomore, I went to State and took second place in the 2A 100m and fourth place in the 200m. My fastest time in the 100m as a sophomore was 10.82 and in the 200m it was 22.25. As a junior, I returned to State to take second in the 100m and third in the 200m by .005 of a second. In that 200m race, I ran a 21.60 which is my personal best and set a new West Sound record. After my 2013 high school track season i had the opportunity to go to North Carolina and compete in the USATF Junior Olympic Nationals in the 100m and 200m. In the 200 I ran a 21.77, placing 23. In the 100m I ran my new personal best of 10.66 in the prelims, which moved me on to semi-finals, I then ran a 10.78 moving on to finals. I placed 7th in finals running a 10.78 again. My goals for my senior year are to gain strength and speed to improve my times in the events that I run. I want to compete at the collegiate level and be a team contributor. I want to be challenged in the classroom as well as on the track; and I am prepared to be successful in both.
