Hello, my name is Nicholas Brent Chaney. I started running in summer track leagues at the age of 12. The summer before my freshman year my coach mentioned that I should try running the 300 meter hurdles at one track meet instead of the open 400, like I normally did, due to my good 400 time and good hurdling skills. Winning 1st in that meet, after never running that race before, I realized that this race was more fit for me than the 110 meter hurdles. Since then, I have qualified for the Regional track meet on the varsity level every year since I was a freshman, along with the State track meet my junior year. During my sophomore year I suffered from a herniated disc in between my L4 and L5 vertebrae which limited me from competing the best that I could, although I still qualified for Regionals. The summer following my sophomore year I had surgery to get the herniated disc removed from my back. Although this made me unable to compete in track that sumer, it benefited me by dropping my personal record more than 2 seconds and advancing me to the State Track Meet in Austin. Along with track, I also spend a large amount of time with school work. Currently sitting in 9th in my class, I am within the top 10% and plan on staying there if not advancing further up in my class rank with this next year. I am very dedicated to both my academics and athletics and hope that I can find I college which will help me continue to succeed in both.
