Personal Statement

I am a dedicated runner on my cross-country team at Seven Lakes High School.  I have been blessed to run with a great group of young men and have learned so much from them and my coach’s.  I strive to set and achieve higher goals for myself every day.  My freshman year I played football and ran cross-country.  I ran in the back of my cross-country team.  As my Coach says it just took a decision.  My decision was to focus on Cross Country and to be the best runner that I could be.  I think it is exhilarating to set goals and strive to accomplish them.  I was able to move from the back to be a top runner.  I was born with natural ability to run but it took me getting my mind in the right mindset to be the athlete I can be.

We currently utilize the Paavo running program, which continues to condition me to run greater distances over time with ever changing goals.  I know I will continue to be a dedicated runner in college and plan to carry on with my training. I am a well-rounded individual.  I am not into the party scene, and I strive to keep my body physically and mentally fit.  I’m careful what I put into my body because poisons do not have positive outcomes or effects.

I know college is not only about running but learning also.   I am working on bringing up my grades to a higher standard.  I am currently enrolled in SAT study classes and will be taking ACT study classes later this fall.  I know with my determination and my positive attitude that I will be a good addition to a college cross-country team.

  • 7/27/14 to 8/02/14
  • RATX moved across distinctive “West Texas” to the rare white sands & black fish, & ended at Ft. Davis Mountain. The idea was to travel to very different places to awaken the mind, run in places not usually available to runners, & gave runners from all over the United States a view of this unique part of the country. A main reason for this Camp’s success was the “competitive partnerships” which were created when runners from very different environments met. This was especially valuable for those who normally train alone, because there’s usually no one near their pace. For the first time, they had someone to train “with”. This Camp was the final chance for most runners to test their training levels before the high school racing schedule began. This year’s camp exceeded every enrollment number of the pat 43 years, and we had to turn applicants away.

  • This high level training camp is designed to take competitive runners to the next level. Each day includes intense training and motivational life lesson sessions. Runners will be given the opportunity to train at different locations and terrains (sand dunes and mountain trails). Daily running lessons include such topics as: training safety, flexibility, racing strategy, nutrition, and goal setting. Priority discussion topics during logbook sessions will include: leadership, motivation, integrity, excellence, and character. The camp will begin with a timed mile on Sunday, July 27th at 7:00 a.m. in Southlake. We will then depart for Monahans Sandhills State Park where we will camp for the evening. Bright and early Monday morning the highly-anticipated sand dunes run will take place. We will break camp after breakfast and travel to Fort Davis State Park where we will remain for the duration of the camp. Campers will return to Southlake on Saturday, August 2nd at approximately 8:00 p.m.
