My name is Andrew Poindexter. I am 17 years old, 6' 2", and 150 lbs. My goals of going into college are pretty simple. I want to compete on the varsity level starting my freshmen year. I am a hard worker and am willing to give every effort to reach that. I consider myself as more of a track athlete than a cross-country athlete, even when all of my accomplishments have been made in cross-country. I am a two time 2nd team All-State runner, i was also one of the leaders of my team that lead my team to the class 4A State Championship team this past Cross-Country year (2011). I have been nominated team leader every year since my sophomore year. My junior year i was regional champ in the 4x800 and 1600 meter run. At the state meet our 4x800 was third place in class 4A (1:59 split for myself), and was 7th in the 1600 meter run (4:40). I also really want to compete in the steeplechase in college, I ran it once in a USATF program and have fallen in love with it since. I offer any team a great leadership capability, for one thing about myself, i do not like to follow, i like to set example for teammates and everyone consider myself as a leader. I have a hard drive when it comes to running, I give it 100% effort, 100% of the time. I grew up in a military family, and have always believed in "you never leave a fallen comrade behind" and this meant something to me in running, where all the leaders and runners should help out the last person no matter what. For your team is only as stronge as its weakest link. My dreams for running go beyond just running in college, since for as long as i can remember I have wanted to run in the Olympics. I am going to major somewhere in the medical field. I'm going to become a doctor, but just not sure on what exactly i want to be a doctor for, but I'm going to major most likely in Medicine. I'm not picky when it comes to a college, I prefer a big college though. I have always had the idea of the be the best, you have to train and compete with the best athlete's in the nation. For geographical location I do not have a set location I would ask for, but I would more likely consider the East or West Coast, since that is where some of the best long distant runners are coming from. I would really like to go to University of Oregon though, I have always been a big Prefontaine fan, and would like to follow in his footsteps of where he went and ran at. When it is all said and done though, I'm looking mostly to get an education out of college. I have always believed your Education comes first. Wherever I end up going though, I'm looking to make an impact on the team and being the best student athlete i can be.
