Barry Bethea '10 Recruiting Profile

I would like to take a few minutes of your time to tell you about myself. I am 6�??0 and it seems that my longer legs are an advantage in the hurdle races. I train year round from indoor and outdoor seasons during the school year to summer track competitions with my club and speed and agility training in the fall. I have had many great accomplishments during my high school career, but there are a few that stand out the most. The first being summer track season of my sophomore year when I won the 2008 AAU Region 2 Junior Olympic 400m championship. This was my first win at a major meet. Another feat I accomplished was winning the open 400m at the 2010 Hispanic Games held at the New York City Armory. Although, my biggest accomplishment was winning the 2009 AAU Junior Olympic National Championship with the Mt. Airy Track Club in the 4x400m Relay with a time of 3:11.5. An experience I hope to achieve at the next level is to be an integral part of a team where I have an opportunity to contribute to their success. I plan to be a hard-working scholar athlete who will give my all at every practice and competition. I will also provide your team with a student of the sport as I am always listening to ways I can improve on anything that will make me a better runner. I prefer to go to school in the southern United States, from Maryland and down the east coast to Florida. I want to be in that area because of the weather and I feel like I will be able to perform best in those climates. I am looking for a school where education is valued and I can receive a degree that is respected. I also want to be at a school that has a good track program with coaches that value their athletes. I come from a single parent household where my mother supports my two sisters and I. These tough economic times make it nearly impossible for her to put me through college without significant financial aid, especially since she is currently attending college herself. I plan to major in Marketing in college. Whether I go straight into the business school or study liberal arts for 2 years and then pursue admission into the business school is not very important to me. I just want a school with knowledgeable professors who are equipped to adapt and teach about the ever-changing world of business. I desire to compete at the highest level I personally can in college, whether it is Division I, II, or, III. Although I would love to come to a school and perform at a level where I garner accolades my first season, I am also willing to wait my turn on a team with more experienced runners.
