“If you go out there and give this thing 120% and at the end of it you can say you gave it all you got, I don’t care what happens because when I see a guy who can do that, that’s something special, and I’ll take that over a win any day.” This is what my father said to me when I asked him for advice before my first varsity race my sophomore year, and it molded me into the person I am today. That short pep talk is what I look back on every time I approach a challenge in my life. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from doing this, it is that hard work and determination can overcome any obstacle, and this has stayed true time and time again for me,
My junior year of Track and Field is great proof of this and how flexible I can be. It was the first year I have even done long jump and exclusively done the 400. But with great coaching, determination, and a positive attitude I ran the anchor leg of the Varsity 4x400 relay, leading the team to multiple wins and records. As well as being the best varsity jumper on the team. Eventually I went on to compete at the state championship and take home a third place medal after running anchor on the 4x400. Following that season I was selected for the Nevada All-Region team as well as winning Most Improved Athlete.
I take this same tenacity into the real world, for example my many hours of community service I have logged. I have spent almost my entire life volunteering for the Reno Rodeo Association. During the summer for two straight weeks every year I spend more than 200 hours helping the Security Committee. This has given me the opportunity to experience and learn from many different situations. It has has helped me hone my communication skills as well as develop my patience and compassion with other people.
My commitment doesn't end there. I take my academics seriously and express a strong work ethic. I have taken multiple honors classes such as Spanish and English. I am also currently enrolled in an AP Government class as well.
In the end everything I do I strive to have the mindset that I cannot be stopped no matter what is thrown at me, and if you give me the wonderful opportunity, I can not only show you I have the right attitude, but I have a true love for competition and everything that comes with it
