Personal Statement

My collegiate goals include graduating with a valuable education from a college or university, where I also can compete in athletics.  It has been a dream of mine to run at the Division I level since my 8th grade year, when I participated in track and field.  Initially,  I was surprised by my success in my first season because often, I was the smallest athlete on the track.  What I lacked in strength and size was overcome by my fierce competitive drive -  not only against my opponents, but my desire to rival myself to best my own personal records and performances.

What distinguishes Connor Meehan from others, is the simple fact that I am a "Renaissance Man."  My versatility in athletics has allowed me to excel as a varsity athlete in soccer, basketball, cross country, track and field, as well as compete in several road races with a high degree of success.  My loyalty to my teammates, coaches, and dedication to training make me a well-rounded threat - no matter the sport or the season.  My talents reach far beyond the courts, playing fields or any track and extend to the classroom as a thinker and to the stage as an improvisational jazz musician.  I am inquisitivecreative and driven.   I possess a skill set to perform with high levels of intensity regardless of the venue.  Whether I play, run or perform in front of crowd in a packed gym, a sold out concert, or in the solitude of thirteen mile training run - I am a competitor constantly striving to give my best, achieve the best and become the best that Connor Meehan can be.

Academic Accomplishments

Are you in honor classes?
Yes. I have consistently challenged myself academically as well as being a dedicated three sport athlete during my high school years. For example, I enrolled in Honors 8th grade Math at Drury High School as a 7th grade student while in elementary school. This challenge required me to attend an extra hourly morning math class at Drury, then be transported back to Brayton Elementary for my 7th grade classes. Upon entering the high school in the fall of 2012 for grade 8, I have taken all honors level courses for my core content subjects in grades 8, 9, 10 and 11. Additionally, I have been a member of the school's advanced Jazz Band, playing the tenor, soprano, baritone and alto saxophones.
Are you in AP/IB classes?
Yes. As a junior, I am currently taking AP language, AP US History and AP Biology. I plan on enrolling in AP Literature, AP Statistics and possibly AP Calculus or AP Chemistry as part of my course load for my final year at Drury. If it can work it into my senior schedule, I hope to take a dual enrollment class at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in one of the STEM courses they offer during the 2016-2017 school year.
Registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center?
Yes
