Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Chase Brown and I want to run cross-country and track in college. So far in my running career I have run 16:12 for 5K, 10:06 in the 3200m, 4:40 in the 1600m, and 33:58 for 10k. These times are a result of hard work, dedication, and desire to win. I put in hours and hours of training and do many extra things like proper nutrition, staying well hydrated, and getting enough rest to give me the best shot at winning and setting personal records. However, the one thing that I believe sets me apart from many people is the fact that I am extremely competitive. I want to win and even more importantly I will do all the work necessary to do so! I believe that these qualities would make me an asset to any team because they are contagious. Since I am only 5 feet 6 inches tall and only weigh 125 pounds, I sometimes wonder why I am fast. The main reasons must be my dedication to training and will to win. As once stated by President Eisenhower, "It's not the size of the dog in the fight; it's the size of the fight in the dog." I have placed highly in many races in my high school career. The five races that stick out the most to me are my third-place finish at the Festival of Champions freshman race in 2008, my overall third-place finish (out of 730 male finishers) at the Festival of Champions my junior year, my second-place finishes at the cross country state meet my sophomore and junior years (2009/2010), my 10:06-3200m run at an under-the-lights invitational track meet my sophomore year and lastly my first place finish in 2010 at the Mountain Valley Conference Championship (where I beat Matt Mclintock my biggest rival, good friend and number one ranked runner in the state of Maine). Although I know I want to run in college, at this point in time I am not sure what size or division school I would like to attend. I'm also leaving options open for geographic location. However, I am sure that whatever school I run for, I will be able to find happiness and success. Also, I'm not sure what I want to major in yet. A few careers I can see myself pursuing are engineering and sports management. In high school, the subjects I have the most interest in are math and history. My athletic goals for college are rather simple; I want to run to my full potential and I want to run times that will make mouths drop.
