Gunnar Eaton '16 Recruiting Profile

     Hello coaches and friends my name is Gunnar Eaton! I am a current Junior at Barren County High School and aspire to represent my school and state throwing at the collegiate level. Along with an outstanding academic record (3.95 GPA/ 28 composite ACT) I have lettered both my freshman and sophomore years earning several district and regional titles, including the Region 2 class 3A gold medal in the discus throw becoming the first sophomore from my school to ever compete at the state level. Also receiving all state honors my sophomore year. As for distances I have had an average increase of 20' a year in the discus and 6' for shot put. During winter training I was getting close to my 150'+ Jr. Goal. 

     Looking on to my Junior and Senior years I was anything but ready to be on top of that podium! Sadly, my life took a drastic turn midway during winter conditioning. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Testicular Cancer which had spread throughout my body and lungs. Naturally I did what I wanted to do with the situation, kick its butt. They told me I couldn't walk the week after surgery, I was up doing rotational drills within 2 days.  They told me I'd lose 30-40 pounds during chemo. Glad to stay I've only went from 225-205. So what makes me different as an athlete? I know what it's like to be at the bottom, now Its time for me show everybody how you get to the top!

P.S They said being bald looks odd for a 17 year old.... I say I look pretty good!
