I have been throwing the shot and discus since 6th grade at Heritage Christian School in Indianapolis, Indiana under the coaching of my father, a NCAA discus All-American. During this period I have come to really love the sport. Track and Field is my only sport and I am passionate about it. My yearly routine includes strength and speed preparation phases that begin in the mid-summer, and are followed by indoor and outdoor competition the following year. I have seen tremendous growth in my strength levels and throwing ability based on my consistent yearly training.
I believe character development from my participation in Track and Field has helped me to build consistency in performance, allowing me to be named team MVP two years in a row and to claim school records in both shot put and discus that had been standing for nearly 3 decades. Toward the end of my sophomore year, I started seeing the results of the work I had been putting in, when I became the city champion in the discus. Placing runner-up at my IHSAA sectional meet in discus, I advanced to the regional meet and placed fourth, narrowly missing the chance to qualify for the state meet. As my junior year came to its close, I approached the IHSAA state meet having been sectional champ and regional runner-up in discus as well as indoor all state and all-sectional in shot put.
Both in and out of the classroom, I believe I prove myself to be a diligent competitor, and will be a major asset to whatever team of which I am a part. I am convinced that I have both the talent and drive necessary to become a competitive national level thrower in any division. Beyond college athletics, I plan to pursue a Master’s degree in science and engineering, using the determination I have developed and will continue to develop through Track & Field. My goal is to commit to an institution where I can become a leader and ultimately use academic and athletic scholarship as a catapult into graduate school.
