Luke Hanselman '14 Recruiting Profile

I am currently a Sophomore at San Marcos High School and I run cross country and track & field. My biggest accomplishments so far are placing 82nd in the CIF section championship as a freshman, running 16:18 for 3 miles at the Dana Hills Invitational, and being ranked in the top 20 for sophomores in southern California. I was and am on the varsity team for both track and cross country. It doesn't matter to me where I go as long as I like the campus and overall atmosphere of the college. The same can be said about the size of the college. If I like the college then I will want to go there reguardless of size or population. I offer leadership to the team because as a freshman I was co-captain and I am the captain this year and I am very outspoken because I am not afraid to say what needs to be done even and then I will do it. I am constantly called the entertainment source of my team because I am the voice of the team and the emotional support of all runners on the team. I pride myself on being very team oriented even though cross country is more of an individual sport when running the race. My goals are to be All-League my sophomore year in cross country and place top 5 at League Finals in track and field in either the 1600m or the 800m but both would be so much better. My main goals for my entire high school stay are to make the state meet as a team and place top 10 overall at my section meet. I also hunger for breaking my school record in the 1600m with a time under a 4:14. I am not expecting coaches to sign me right away to their school but I do ask that they pay attention to my progress because there will be much of it over the course of my high school career. I will try as hard as I possibly can to meet my goals in my sport because no one can stop me when I fully develop into the greatest distance runner this country has ever seen. I am 6'1" and 150 lbs.
