William Budrow '12 Recruiting Profile

My name is William Budrow, I am currently a Junior at Placer High School in Auburn, CA. This past fall was my first year running organized cross country, but I have always enjoyed running and look forward to continuing to run for Placer High the rest of my high school career. Having just moved to Auburn in February 2009, I wasn't aware of the cross country camps being held during the summer, so my cross country experience began when school started last August. I started running with the frosh/soph division for the first few races and made my way up to Junior Varsity by mid-season. My second-to-last race I was allowed to run with the Varsity team, but as a sophomore I was not allowed to run Varsity for sub-sections during my last race. We had 56 runners on our cross country team this past season and I was placed in the top 12. At the end of the season, I received a "Coach's Pick" award, and was recognized by Coach Fee as having considerable improvement over the season. I am really looking forward to attending the summer camps and training with my team again for this next season. I enjoy the camaraderie of the team and always cheer on my teammates. I give 100% at every practice and race and try to help motivate and encourage my teammates to do the same. Auburn is known to many as the Endurance Capital of the World; many of our practices consisted of running 4 miles down into the American River Canyon and then back up. Having gone to small schools most of my life I am interested in attending a small to medium size college that can offer me the best education while allowing me to pursue my dream of running at the collegiate level. I am open to exploring all different types of institutions. Due to my family's financial situation, I will be applying for FAFSA aid as well as any grants or awards I qualify for to help fund my education. I love mathematics and am considering a major in an engineering field, possibly mechanical engineering. I would also enjoy continuing my Spanish education and have always been interested in the Japanese language and culture as well. I think I have realistic expectations of myself. I don't expect to be considered a top-notch Division 1 athlete at this time, but I know that over the next 2 years in high school I can improve my numbers dramatically and will be an asset both academically and athletically for the college I attend.
