Zane Navratil '14 Recruiting Profile

I started playing tennis when I was about eight years old, and I participated in my first USTA event when I was eleven. The first match I ever played I was crushed. The second match I played I was crushed. This went on for about ten matches, but I didn't get discouraged. I kept playing because I wanted to get better, and that is why I love the game so much. I started playing more seriously when I was 14. I began playing more tournaments and practicing more which brought better results. My freshmen year of highschool I played #2 singles behind the WIAA Division 2 state champion, James Stark. By practicing with James I learned what it took to become an elite player. With great coaching from Harold Swanson I was able to win the 2012 WIAA Division 2 state championship, and I kept improving. I thought I would have a let down after playing so well in the state tournament, but I was wrong. I kept my momentum going and finished second in the Wisconsin Qualifier. I also won four matches at the Midwest Closed tournament in Indianapolis. This year I was once again able to capture the state title for division two. My goal for tennis is to get as good as I possibly can. I enjoy trying to always improve my game. I am not driven my results; I am driven by improving which is why I enjoy tennis so much.
