Benjamin White '17 Recruiting Profile

     Since my freshman year in high school, I’ve always said that you can be good at everything, but I wanted to be great at one thing--Tennis. For me, this realization came not on the tennis court, but on the baseball field. As a freshman in high school, I chose to play baseball on the school team while continuing to play tennis outside of school. Although I had played baseball since the age of four, at every baseball practice, I found that I was missing spending time on the tennis court, grinding away hitting thousands of groundstrokes, volleys, and serves. My sophomore year, I made the decision to hang up my cleats and pursue tennis as my only sport. Due to my revitalized interest in tennis, the amount of time I spent practicing tennis increased along with the number of tournaments I played. On my high school team, I was the number one seed. My experience there proved to be not only one of the most fun, but also one of the biggest learning opportunities of my life. As the number one seed, I became a strong leader for the team. It was then that I learned to control my emotions on court which in turn not only improved my game, but also impacted the morale of the team as well.
     I would like to play singles and doubles on a college tennis team in an environment where my skills can contribute to the team’s success. However, more than just athletics, I would like to compete for a college with a very strong academic program. As much fun as it may sound to play tennis only, I understand that to have a successful future, I must work hard. By paying my dues in the classroom as well as on the court, I will earn a degree and the real world skills that are necessary to make a living. As of now, I am planning to major in chemistry because I enjoy the subject, and I appreciate that a degree in this field will open up many doors in the future. Thank you for visiting my profile.
