Personal Statement

I am a 5'9" high school tennis player from Perrysburg, Ohio, and will be graduating from St. John's Jesuit High School in May of 2014.  I have played on the St. John's Varsity A tennis team for all my years in high school and we won Division 1 states my freshman year and at the state team Championship matches my doubles team won against both New Albany and St. Xavier.  My sophomore year we finished third in the state for Division 1.  Now in my junior year I play second or third singles and my brother and I  finished first in the Division 1 District doubles.  We then played in the Division 1 state doubles tournament and progressed to the semifinals where we finished fourth in the state.  I then played singles in the Division 1 team state tournament where St John's Jesuit finished fourth. This year I was given the award of "most valuable player" for the St. John's Jesuit team.  I have been working on improving my USTA ranking and maintaining a high level of personal fitness.  Part of this involves training at local tennis clubs as well as the Saddlebrook Tennis Program in Tampa, Florida.

During my college years I plan to study pre-medicine.  I am interested in a school where I can pursue this goal along with playing on a great tennis team.  My intent is to work very hard on both my academics and my tennis.

One of my other passions is service.  I have been very involved with the Christian Service Program at St John's and I was chosen my freshman year to be part of the Ambassador Program, which I have continued throughout high school.  This year I was a retreat leader and had the opportunity to work with freshmen students and lead many discussions.  I would really like to continue with various leadership and service opportunities during my college years.
