Similar to most athletes and students, I strive for excellence with the intentions of being the very best at what I do, however, what separates me from the masses of other talented students and athletes is that I intend to lead others to excellence through example. I not only strive for my own success, but aspire to bring others along for the run.
Many people my age think of college merely as another obstacle they have to hop over in order to attain their goals in life. To me, college is a challenge, and I do my best to see every challenge as an opportunity to become a better person for my own good, and for the good of those around me.
Swimming and competing among other athletes and students is widely regarded to be an individual competition. This, however, only holds true to those who are in it for themselves. I believe in working in a team as one in order to advance as a whole. Through experience, I have seen that the only way to create a better world is not to excel in front of the masses and leave everyone behind, but to unite as one, compete as one, and to ultimately excel as one.
