My motivation to study International Business and Finance. This is the result of my family origins.
I am born in Luxembourg have a Swiss father and a Norwegian / Scottish mother. As a result of growing up in a family with roots in Switzerland, Luxemburg, Norway and Scotland, I became very interested in different languages and traditions.
Listening to conversations during family reunions, I became aware of different approaches to events in the world and I came to understand the importance of being able to communicate with foreigners in diverse languages. I saw how the rise of emerging markets could be an opportunity for businesses but could also affect them negatively as my family had to close a business because of the competition coming from Eastern Europe.
Today one can observe the transfer of wealth from the older economies like the USA and Europe towards Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Africa and the impact this transfer has on the business world.
I also really like to interact with people and the fact that I can speak German, Luxemburgish, English and French fluently is a big asset. I am still planning to learn another language such as Spanish, which is spoken in many developing countries in order to improve my chances of managing people in the future.
Beside school I have a passion for swimming and being part of the Luxemburg National Swimming Team has given me the opportunity to compete in many countries.
During these interesting trips I particularly appreciated my ability to communicate with foreign athletes and to see the world from a different angle than the one I knew.
Competing at a high level shows my dedication and discipline to train hard to achieve a goal and to put all the chances on my side. I have learned to manage my time efficiently, to stay motivated while injured and to stay organized. Fair play and teamwork are also important values that I have internalized and that I consider important as it is my goal to be an effective leader.
Sports has always been a big part in my life. It is something that has always been in my life and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without it. I am always open for new challenges and I decided to participate at my first half Ironman in Malaysia. I took real dedication to train during winter and I was one of my proudest moments I experienced in my life for the moment.
At age 17 I then decided to go abroad alone. I went to the United States to attend my last year of High School. It was a real change for me since I left everything I had behind. I left my family and friends in Luxembourg. I didn’t really know what to expect. I believe it was the right thing for me to do because I learned to be more independent and more responsible. I think my experiences over there shaped my personality and values.
