Benjamin Kurz '12 Recruiting Profile

       There's nothing more important to me than swimming in college. I am five foot eleven inches and 148 pounds with a wingspan of six foot two inches. My strongest events are in distance freestyle, including anything from the 200 yard freestyle to the 1650 yard freestyle. I have competed in competitions such as the Iowa state championship meet, Sectionals at the University of Missouri, the Senior Zones Championship Meet in Bismark, North Dakota, and the Grand Prix at University of Minnesota. I finished as district champion in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle and also named the district swimmer of the year. Out of all my races, I am the most dominant in the 1650 yard freestyle. I would be a great addition to your team if you are looking for someone to do the distance events.
      I have competed competitively in swimming since eighth grade, and my coaches have taken notice of my work ethic. My club coach, who has been coaching for almost 30 years, as well as my high school coach, who is in his fifth year as head coach, have both said that I have the best work ethic they have ever seen. I work as hard as possible in and out of the water. 
       For example, at the Senior Zones championship meet, my club coach was unable to come so I was informally adopted onto the home team. That way, I would have a coach to enter me into my events. The coach formerly was an Olympic swimmer for France. After the second day of the three day meet he approached me and my parents and asked if we would consider moving to Bismark to swim on his team. He was very impressed by my work ethic and would love to have me on his team.
       Next to my work ethic, another noticable quality I have is leadership. As a sophmore and junior I helped lead the team through practices and meets to keep everyone focused and motivated. As a senior, I have been named team captain, which also includes starting the team in stretches before practice, and weight lifting after practice.
       I am very open to where I swim in college because swimming is my passion, and I am 100% dedicated to swimming in college.
