My name is Kyle Swardenski, and I currently attend Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, California. I am 5’11 and 165 lbs and since my freshman year, I have swam for the Varsity swim team. My two best events are typically butterfly and backstroke, although I also regularly compete in the 200 Free and Individual Medley as well. I regularly swim part of both the 200 Medley and 400 Free Relay teams.
Beginning at the age of 5, I swam for ten years for my neighborhood’s summer recreational league, the Glenmoor Stingrays, where I currently hold a number of team records. In addition to my team records I hold two East Bay Swim League records in backstroke and butterfly and have received the Stingrays’ Most Valuable Player award nine out of the ten seasons I have participated. In 2013, I began swimming year round for Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics (PASA), a gold medal USA Swimming club, and at the conclusion of my first season, I received the PASA Performance Award for the Varsity team. In 2015, I qualifed and competed in my first Junior National Championship meet in Clearwater Florida, wherein I finaled in both the 50 and 100 fly events.
My dream has always been to swim competitively in college and I think that’s what makes me who I am. I work hard in practice and regularly set goals that are both challenging and realistic, so that I push myself to do the best I can. This mindset also guides my work in school and academically -- I strive to get the best grades possible and don’t accept anything less from myself. I take instruction and direction well from others and have been told that I am a easily coachable kid.
My college goals are to be eligible to swim and compete at the highest level possible. I want to be able to contribute positively and have an impact on the team, whether that be cheering on teammates or scoring points in my own events. Another goal is to do well in my school work and studies so that I can be successful later in life. Right now I am interested in architectural design or a related major, but I am still actively exploring the many options out there.
When I am not swimming I enjoy surfing, listening to music and drawing/sketching. One of my favorite hobbies is to take apart small appliances and other items to see how they work and try to use them in different ways. Other sports I have played include waterpolo, wherein I was St. Francis’ Freshman Team Captain and led our team to an undefeated season and was awarded MVP at the team’s closing banquet. I also was a member of St Francis’ Freshman Basketball team during the 2012-13 winter season and enjoy playing hoops at the gym in my free time.
