Daniel Barnett '12 Recruiting Profile

I didn't start competitive swimming until I joined the high school swim team during my freshman year.  I quickly realized during this first season how much I liked swimming.  After the season was over, I joined a small swim team near my home.  After earning my varsity letter during my sophomore year, my passion for the sport continued to grow and in November of 2009, I joined the Scottsdale Aquatic Club swim team.  

With the rigorous schedule and great coaching, I have been able to improve my times, especially in the breaststroke.  Swimming in college has become my goal.  In March 2011, I achieved my first Far Western qualification time in the 100 yd breast stroke at the Arizona Short Course Senior State Championships.  Since then, I have achieved a Far Western qualification time in the 200m breaststroke and a Sectional qualification time in the 100m breaststroke at the Arizona Long Course Senior State Championships in July.

For the past two years, I have worked as a lifeguard and certified swim instructor for the City of Scottsdale and was also hired this summer to be a coach for the city recreational swim league.  I am an active Boy Scout and have recently completed my Eagle Project.  I have strong leadership capabilities and know how to work hard to achieve my goals.  This year, I will be captain of my high school swim team.

Swimming in college has become my goal.  I know that I have the desire, dedication and ability to continue to improve my times and earn a position on a college swim team.
