Hi, I am Cooper Zent, a student at George Washington High School in Charleston, West Virginia. I have played soccer for 13 years, with the last 8 years mainly being a goalkeeper. This past year I was selected 2nd team All State and 1st team All County. I held the conference record for shut outs during this past year. I start for the George Washington Men's Varsity Soccer team, as well as for my travel team, Charleston Futboll Club. We travel to tournaments in Ohio and North Carolina. I love the game of soccer and strive to work hard at always being the best goalkeeper I can be for my team. I try to be a leader on and off the field with my peers.
I also play tennis and have since I was a toddler. I played my first tennis tournament at the age of 5. Starting tennis at such a young age helped me with developing good hand/eye coordination. Last year, I helped my high school tennis team win a state championship by winning my singles and doubles matches. Singles has taught me to learn how to compete on my own, which in turn trains one to learn the ups and downs of competitive situations. Doubles, on the other hand, has helped and taught me how to appreciate, communicate with a teammate, as well as the importance of working as a cohesive unit towards the same goal with a team.
Being active has always been a huge part of my life, but to do this my academics have always had to come first. I hope to some day go to medical school and be involved with diabetic research and care. I, myself have been a diabetic since the age of two and I hope to be able to make a difference with others suffering from this illness. I have never let this stop me from reaching my goals. It is a part of my life and I make no excuses because of it.
