Personal Statement
I have been playing soccer since I was 6. I am from a small town in Northwest Washington where recognition from college coaches comes very seldom. My team is always the underdog in the league, but the last 5 years have certainly brought on a major transition phase. In the last 3 years with the team, I have scored 10 goals and assisted just as many. As leading scorer and runner-up captain my junior year, I feel that I will carry my team to the top of the conference in my senior year.
Being 18, the club I was playing with has disbanded. I've been playing stopper and outside defense until I was 14. That is when i decided it was far too easy, so I took on the challenge of winning games, not tying them. Since then I have scored multiple tying, go-ahead, and game winning goals, with multiple teams, including select level, premier level, mens recreational level and mens premier level. I play as an outside midfielder or striker. My strongest attribute is my versatiity. I will play wherever I am needed, and will help lead my team to victory.
Being an older student in my class, i have always been playing with guys a year ahead of me, and that has always forced me to step up my game and prove myself as a strong member of any team, even when I'm the small kid at 5'8, 145 pounds. I have proven my worth through my speed, agility, touch, vision and overall awareness of the game. First of all, my 40 yard dash time is 4:83, and will be improved upon. My agility was described as "super human" by Cliff Mcrath, a US Soccer Hall of Fame Member. When I was 14 and 15, I juggled everyday for at least an hour, and my first touch has been noticed by a few college coaches already. My vision on the field is more of a developed skill than just a helpful attribute. I always know everything that is going on around me, which is a very strong characteristic for any good soccer player.
I am looking to play for a D2, D3 or NAIA school, and will use my motto "He who dares. . ." to carry me through any challenge until I get to my goal. Even as a newly recruited freshman, I will take on a leadership role with the team, because thats the way I have been, on every team as the young and little guy. I know what it takes to be a good player, because I have trained with multiple former professionals, and have learned many valuable lessons from them, and I feel that their skills have transferred to me through the 3 different coaches: watching, listening, and doing. My name is Eric Sherman, and as Demarcus Beasely once said to me, "one day, kids are gonna be asking for your autograph too."
