My name is Zachary Davis and I was born Augusta, GA. My parents divorced when I was less than a year old and eventually my mother remarried. My entire life has evolved around my parents and stepfather being in the military. Because of this, I have moved around a lot in my lifetime. I began playing soccer when I moved to Chesapeake, VA. I started out playing in a YMCA recreational league when I was seven years old. This was short-lived because my stepfather was transferred to Germany for his job in the military a year later. Once in Germany, I began playing soccer year-round. This is where I truly began to love the game. I became obsessed with the sport because it was part of the German culture. I played every day, whether in school or at the local football club I belonged to. I was not the best player while there, as most of the kids seemed to be born with a soccer ball on their foot, but I learned the fundamentals of the game and it became a part of my life. I spent three years in Germany establishing the basis of my game today. I think this is important to know because it truly is a way of life there. Unlike the United States, there are only two sports that almost everyone in Germany plays. Soccer or handball. That is it. I embraced soccer and brought that mentality back to the States when I returned three years later. Upon my return, I was not sure of the level of soccer here in the US and started on an advanced team at my current club, Chesapeake United. I made lifelong friends on my first American team and remain on that team to this day. Although I continue to play for this team, it did not impede me from rising through the ranks of travel teams. I started at the bottom level of the travel teams my second year back in the States and began working my way up to the Premier team, where I play currently. I also started playing for my high school team during my freshman year starting with JV. At any given time, I play for two to three teams year-round, to include indoor, Fut-Sol, sand soccer, and of course on a normal pitch in the fall and spring. I have been pursuing soccer vigorously throughout my life because it has always been my dream to play professionally. To do so I believe I must play in college. I also believe I would excel on a college field because I have never once given up on soccer and am always willing to learn. I am realistic and understand I still have much to learn about playing the game. It would be a dream come true if I were able to receive a college education while playing the sport I love. If I were to play on a college team I would work harder than anyone else. I know the coaches make many difficult choices when picking candidates but I would like the opportunity to show them that they made the correct choice when choosing me.
