My name is Liam Foley and I am a Senior at South Kingstown HS (Division 1) in Rhode Island. I play goal keeper for my High School team as well as the Rams FC Premier Soccer Club at URI. I have always been told that I have a “goalie mentality” and I was not always sure what that meant. I love to help my team win, give all I have to each and
every game, and always keep my sense of humor, no matter what the outcome. This must be what it means to have a "goalie mentality".
I have worked hard to understand the game and to know where my teammates need to be in every situation on the field. Being a goalie allows me to be very physical, to be a vocal leader and truly tests my nerve every time I am between the pipes.
I am a versatile athlete that has played soccer and hockey since the age of six. I have been a two year varsity starter for my high school hockey team and of course, I am a Defenseman. I represented Rhode Island in the The National Hockey Championships in Charlotte NC in 2013. As a sophomore, I also made the varsity golf team and participated in multiple matches. Coaches, I know what you are asking yourself, what is your sport of choice? The answer is soccer. I have participated in soccer year round including goalie training for the past three years. I have had coaches that have asked me to concentrate on one sport since the age of twelve, but I believe my hockey background definitely assists with the physical game that Premier soccer offers me.
I have volunteered coaching Southern RI Youth Soccer goalies, teaching the younger players what I have learned over the years. I try to teach positioning, ball control, communication and recommend that they continue to work on all ball skills with teammates. I will coach some day when my playing days are done.
In college, my goal is pursue a degree / area of study that uses my strengths in math and to continue to play soccer. I look forward to my college experience and will be a great addition to your team and school. I will bring a positive attitude, sense of humor and leadership abilities to your team I plan to continue to be a great example of what dedication and hard work does for you.... on and off the pitch.
