My name is Rimi Olatunji, I am a sixteen years old African Canadian from Brampton, Ontario. I have been playing soccer from the age of three. I am the youngest from a family of four. I have two loving parents and a caring sister who all believe in me and support me in achieving my goals and dreams.
I am presently a Toronto FC Academy goalkeeper. My main strengths are my athleticism and my technical ability. As described by former coaches, I have a rare combination of size, strength, speed, as well as being agile. I am a very fast learner and am able to take criticism positively to benefit myself and improve in required areas. I have great leadership abilities which I use positively in carrying others along side in order to succeed as a team. As a student athlete, I keep up with my half of the deal with both myself and my parents by remaining an honors student in school (80%-89.9% Average). I am well focused and I am able to manage my time well and sacrifice extra time where needed to complete school assignments as well as attend all practices with great enthusiasm.
My ultimate goal is to one day become a professional soccer player however, I believe that proper education is a foundation that every athlete must strive to have in order to have something meaningful to fall back on after retirement or in the case of an injury that prevents them from playing in the future.
In order to achieve my ultimate goal, benefiting from a scholarship opportunity and playing on a men’s soccer team that is best suited for my career goal will prepare me for the future ahead and also make me a useful citizen to the community at large.

MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR 2014
When it came to the selection of the male athlete of the year award I knew that there was
one young man the entire grade would unanimously agree deserves this award - and so
before I describe his accomplishments, I would like to invite up to the platform the winner
of this year's award - Rimi Olatunji.
Rimi was a member of 5 of the ACSI sports teams we put together this year. This
speaks to his athleticism as the variety of skills needed to excel in all these different sports
is quite broad. He was also an enthusiastic participant in our intramural sports program
and a strong student in Phys. Ed. class.
Rimi has that rare combination of strength, size and speed along with tremendous
coordination. His passion is soccer and he is a member of the Toronto FC youth club-
which made him an indispensable goalkeeper slash player on our soccer team. He was
Daniel's favourite receiver on the flag football team - gaining extensive yardage after each
catch he made. He was our dominant attacker on the volleyball team and the top scorer
on our basketball team, as well as a tenacious defender. He earned a gold medal for being
the top grade 8 male athlete at the ACSI track and field meet - this as a result of placing
first in discus (throwing the disk 36 m which becomes the new ACSI record), i" in shot put,
2nd in the 100 m dash, and helping anchor the 4 x 100 m relay team to its 2nd place finish.
We all admire the athlete who allows his performance to demonstrate his ability,
rather than boasting about his prowess. Rimi was not one to boast about how good he
was, for he has a big heart - and although he competes harder than most, he still enjoys
playing the game and he enjoys the friendships with his teammates as well as with players
from opposing teams.
This character quality of humility is one which God values and desires us to develop.
As it is written in Matthew 23:12
"For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will
be exalted." As well as in 1 Peter 5:6
"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due
time."
I can honestly say that he is liked by all his teachers and classmates and treats all of us
with kindness and respect.
This year he has developed his leadership skills and encouraged his teammates by his
intensity and with his voice during games. I am going to miss working with him next year,
but know that he will continue to excel as an athlete.
So congratulations on this award Rimi!
