My sophomore year, my high school team went 16-0, completing a perfect season up until playoffs. We went into playoffs knowing that it would be hard to beat each opponent for a third time, so we went in playing as hard as possible. We made it past the quarterfinals and even past the semis and were ready to play in the championship, though our attitudes had become relaxed, thinking that the game was gonna be a breeze. We lost the championship 2-0 to a team that everyone knew that we could've beaten any other day. Only problem was, they wanted it more than us.
This loss taught me that hard work and persistence is the key to success. With that heartbreak of a year behind us, our team pushed on the next year, going 16-0 again. But this year would be different, as instead of relaxing before the championship, we decided to work harder than we had worked all year. For me, this idea applies in the classroom because failure is not an option where I come from. I plan on pushing myself and those around me to be the best at what we do, not average.
