Personal Statement
My name is Marcos Charalambous, I am 20yrs old, 6’ “and weigh 145lbs. I am a Greek Cypriot who loves playing soccer since the age of 7 when I joined the Apoel Football Academy in Nicosia, Cyprus. Apoel F.C. (see Wikipedia) is the most successful football team in Cyprus and popular for reaching the UEFA Champions League quarter finals in 2011-12. I am currently part of the 1st team as an amateur player, MF & CF positions, following the team’s normal training program but usually playing for the 2nd team in the U21 who won the championship 9 points clear form the runner up 3games before the tournament ends. Last year I won the award for best soccer player U21 in Cyprus and my greatest moment so far was my 7minute participation with Apoel F.C. in the UEFA Europa League match against Senica in Slovakia last year. I have also been in the National Soccer Teams U15, U17, U19 and currently in the U21 and also in the National MIlitary Team.
I have attended the G.C.School of Careers, 2005-11 and The Senior School Nicosia 2011-12, both English speaking high schools, where I obtained my O’ Levels, A’ Level & Advanced Subsidiaries and my graduation and school leaving certificate. As much as I love playing soccer I am fully aware of the importance of achieving good University education especially during these very hard economic times (Cyprus, a Eurozone member country agreed to a very hard financial program from Troika). For this purpose talking with my parents (my mother graduated from Boston University, class '85, my father an economist from London University) and also friends who are currently studying in US, I believe that US through NCAA provide this fantastic opportunity of combining both academic and sports success. I have taken the SAT exam, registered in the NCAA Eligibility Centre (academically eligible) NCAA ID: 1207932255 and I am interested in playing division I soccer.
I trully believe that the US model of education and sports is the most suitable for me and I am looking forward to it, as I will try to fully exploit this opportunity by offering my best. My telephone number is 00357 99381099 (it doesn't fully fit in normal place above) and if I am not available (in the army at nights after daily training session with Apoel) my dad can be easily reached at 00357 99569831. Cyprus time is min 7 hours ahead depending of course on the state you are calling from.
