Personal Statement
LEGAL NAME: TRAVIS, THEODORE URIAH M. NICKNAME: "TEDDY" PRESENT SCHOOL: LA SALLE GREEN HILLS (LSGH), MANILA, PHILIPPINES
Throughout my life, I have encountered many obstacles, but I have also encountered many blessings. Some of these obstacles and blessings were as obvious as they could be, while others were blessings/obstacles I didn’t even notice. The two most significant experiences that I will never forget are playing football and joining Search-In.
Football is such a significant experience for me because I have learned so much from this. I have played this great game since I was 4 years old in Singapore, and have been a varsity starter on all my school and high school teams since age 5 at La Salle Greenhills in the Philippines. Football has taught me teamwork, humility, trust, and hope. Football has taught me teamwork through the saying “There is no ‘I’ in ‘TEAM’”. If a team has no teamwork, then the team will have a hard time winning. One player doesn’t make the whole team. Everyone has his own role and contribution to the team’s victory. I also learned humility through each game I play. Whenever you win games or score goals, you don’t boast about it but instead, you thank God for giving you the talent that you have. Another value that I learned from football is that you have to trust people. In football, you have to trust your teammates and believe that they can help the team with their own abilities. Without trust, the team won’t succeed. Another value that I have learned through football is hope. You can always hope that you’ll do your best in whatever you do. If you are losing badly in a game, you must never give up and always have hope. God does what he does for a reason. If you lost, then He has better plans for you but if you won, then thank God for blessing you with the win.
Another experience that defines me as a person is when I joined Search-In. At first, I didn’t really want to join Search-In. My friends in school told me that I should try it and that it was a really good experience for them. I thought that it would just be a waste of time and that it wouldn’t help me in any way but it did. Search-In is a school organization that promotes brotherhood and brings you closer to God. This experience has really opened my eyes to new adventures, new friends, and a new family. Because of Search-In, I opened up to my batch mates about my personal problems and they opened up about theirs. I felt good because I realized that nobody is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes and has problems to go through so we have to always comfort each other and let them know that we are there for each other.
