Hello, my name is Matthew Long and I have a great desire to play soccer in college. I have been playing soccer since I was four years old on both school and various club teams. I am six feet tall and weigh 150 pounds. As a center defender I am a very physical player that is not afraid to go hard into a tackle. I also play as a defensive midfielder, especially when the team needs someone to control the midfield. I am a strong communicator on the field and not hesitant to organize the defense and offer motivation to my team. I was voted most valuable defensive player of the year at school sophomore year and defensive MVP for senior year. I was also selected to play for the district all star game in 2012. I am a great person to have on the team because I am very positive and I never bring the team down. Even if my team is losing I do not give up and I will not let them give up either. I am also a very coachable player. If my coach tells me to play a position I am not used to playing, I still play as hard as I can and play the position to the best of my ability. I am a great listener and I am always open to new suggestions of play. I like to try the new things as much as I can so I can perfect them for the game. In addition to playing soccer, I want a school that offers a top notch Mathematics Education program because I want to be a math teacher. Finally, I would love to play as a freshman. I am willing to work extremely hard to earn my place on the team as a freshman and earn every minute of playing time. Even if I do not play the whole game, I will consistently be supportive of my teammates. My main goal in soccer is to help my team to play well and win games. As a student my goal is to earn good grades in college as I prepare for my future career.
