Rickie Mortlock '14 Recruiting Profile

I was born  in the U.K. and lived and played soccer there until I was ten years old. I was a goalkeeper all six years from age 4-10. Then my parents decided to move to Florida and I had to find a way to continue playing the game I love. I was a goalkeeper for one year and had a change of position. I had something many players on the team didn't have, a strong left foot. So I played left midfield. I played there for two seasons then had a change in coach, and he experimented many positions with me. I finally found my place in the center of defence where I could read the game and be a vocal leader to the team. I used this experience and awareness to move up into the holding midfield role after a few season still continuing on with vocal leadership. This is my favorite position but due to lack of players for my club team I got moved back to center back. This is the current position I play in for club and although I do not like it due to being undersized in my opinion I accept the challenge and enjoy taking on bigger, faster, and stronger strikers everyday. They are who make me a better player. I play center midfield for school alongside my freshman brother. My dream is to simply play on the big stage, playing professional soccer in front of thousands of people. The same dream thousands of kids have across the world. But realisticly I would like to be able to play the sport as long as possible in school and get a good education to get a great job.
