Hello,
My name is Alexander Coffey, and I have been lucky enough to be a part of the Steamboat Springs High School soccer team. I have played on the varsity team my sophomore and my junior years in high school and am counting down the weeks to the beginning of my senior soccer year. Having gone through many injuries that have set me back, they have had an influence over who I am today. I have had injuries come at terrible times taking me out of doing the main thing that makes up my identity, Soccer. Going through these injuries it has taught me that every time life knocks you down, you have the chance to come back stronger if you are willing to do the work. My acedemic goals for high school are to graduate with a 3.4 GPA, and in college I want to earn a bachelors degree in psychology to open up the options for helping people in need. I began playing soccer when I was 6 years old, I took up the sport because when I was young, I knew I wanted my future to have sports involved in it. Because I was so young and did not know entirely what I wanted, I gave as many sports as I could a try. Right away I developed a passion for soccer, and over the course of my life, I have figured out that soccer is the sport I want to continue to participate in.
Through playing soccer, I have learned to do everything with a purpose. If I do not enter the field with a purpose to improve my skills every day, that practice does not help me become a better player. This now contributes to my whole life. If I do not do everything I do with a purpose, it is not helping me become a better person, and it is not going to get me closer to being a successful person. To get to where I am today I have had to overcome multiple injuries. I have had surgery on both of my knees removing plica and damaged scar tissue. These injuries have kept me away from the sport of soccer for months at a time. Which is very difficult for me because I base a large portion off of my life on soccer. I have had to learn how to properly rehab and be patient, so I can come back to soccer stronger than ever. Something that stands out about me compared to other players is that soccer is not just a sport to me, it is a life style. Being a part of the team is very important and it truly is like having another family. Both on and off the field I know that every decision that I make will either help, or hurt the team. Even if I am not given the role as captain, I know that I am still responsible for my teammates. I will do everything that I can to make sure that they are happy, and that they are making the right decisions in order to be the best person that they can be, and to help the team.
