Personal Statement

Latest Update

I have just committed to Montreat College, a small school playing NAIA in North Carolina.

Thanks to NCSA staff and all the college coaches for making this possible!  Matthys

NCAA# 1306339356    ;      NAIA# 0163847

I am a 6'3 Center Back from Calgary Canada. I have a good work ethic and will put in the time and effort to make any team successful. I am still growing and I believe that my height is a major asset for any team looking to bolster their defense in the coming seasons. I have Captained my team to many successful seasons, including a berth at provincials less than a year ago and a second place finish this past season. I was also the top scorer at the 2013 provincial tournament for my division.

I am currently at West Island College in Calgary AB and I am taking/have already taken many grade 12 level courses. For my Post-Secondary Education I would like to go into Business, an area in which I feel I could succeed. I currently have a 4.0 GPA, 1320 2 part SAT and plan to write the ACT in December.

I'm ready for a challenge and I deliver results.  I was very successful at my summer job and have been selected for school Prefect, Head Boy and Provincial Education Student Representative. I was recently elected Captain of my soccer team.

This summer I attended a recruiting camp at Creighton July 13-16, where I won MVP.  My team played in the NW NSCAA Tournament at Tacoma July 5-7th, where we took 1st place.  I also attended scouting camp at Le Moyne where I made the All Star game.  Since then, I've made a couple college visits and feel ready for the next step.

In regular season in Calgary, my team finished 2nd, winning SILVER at the Alberta Provincial Championships.  We play in the U18 division for another year and hope we can hit gold next summer.

I am looking for a school that can offer a competitive soccer program and an excellent education in a smaller setting.  I will require non-need based funding (both academic and athletic) to make this dream happen.  Please give me a call if I can help your defence propel you forward.
