Personal Statement

Exploring new areas of interest, such as Psychology, and expanding my knowledge in subjects that I love, like History and the works of Shakespeare, excites me. One of my main goals in college involves taking a variety of courses to expand my knowledge base.  The exposure to new fields and ways of thinking energizes me; the ability to study abroad would also be a wonderful experience and another goal of mine.  I am ready to challenge myself further in all aspects of my life during the next four years whether academically, socially, or athletically.  I aspire to take full advantage of the opportunities made available to me through my college or university during the next phase of my academic life.  Meeting new people and striving to make an impact on my campus is also important.  My high school motto values being a “man for others” and I plan to follow that philosophy throughout my college life.  I will find ways to continue with the community service opportunities I have participated in during my high school years.  Serving as the leader for many of these service projects has taught me a great deal about working together for the greater whole, just like being a member of the rowing team.
My leadership skills make me an excellent candidate for a college team, even earning awards for my contributions.  Experience in leadership training has prepared me to work well with others and gave me the skills that help bring a group together.  I know how to encourage and motivate others to push themselves and try to lead by example.  My teachers and administrators have continually complimented my character and recently selected me to represent our school at a special reception with Pope Francis during his visit to Washington, DC.  Training hard and never giving up during a race or event makes me a stand out from other recruits.  A strong work ethic keeps me focused on striving to improve my strength, form, and endurance.  Academically I am constantly improving and challenging myself.  I have not reached my full potential academically or athletically and look forward to improving on both areas in college.

  • Freshman Year - Spring Season 2013
  • 1 year
  • During the summer, I continued training with the football team. We started running and conditioning in early June which ran up to the start of the football season.
  • Sophomore Year - Winter and Spring Season 2013-2014
  • 2 years
  • During the summer, I attended rowing camps at Navy and Princeton. At Navy, I rowed in the 1V boat with the head coach. At Princeton, I rowed stroke and rarely came out of the boat. I also worked out weekly with a personal trainer.
  • Junior Year - Fall, Winter and Spring Season 2014-2015
  • 3 years
  • During the summer, I rowed on a club team with twice a day practices 3x per week from June through August. When preparing for regattas and competitions we rowed 2x daily up until the event. Conditioning was a key component of our practices. I also worked out weekly with a personal trainer in order to improve my strength, power, and endurance. Core strengthening was a focus in order to improve my form on the water.
  • Senior Year - Fall season
  • 4 years
  • We began training and practice in August. We have been on the water since September 8th and working hard.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
